Pamela Martin handles appraisals in the following regions for Heritage Appraisers:
My name is Pamela Martin. I have been in the jewelry industry for 33 years.
During my Junior year at Michigan State University, I did a research paper on starting my own business. I choose a jewelry store, and interviewed several Lansing and East Lansing jewelers. Through the interviewing process, I learned of the Gemological Institute of America and their courses. By my Senior year, I decided that I was not interested in the clothing aspect of retailing, which I had worked in since the age of 16. I quit my job and went to work for a jeweler while completing my Bachelor of Science in Retailing at Michigan State. I also enrolled in the G.I.A. courses upon graduation.
In 1979, I moved to Columbus, Ohio and began working at a family owned AGS jeweler. After one year, I was fortunate to be hired by The Diamond Cellar. I worked there for 6 years, finishing my G.I.A. training, and managed their appraisal department in addition to helping out on the sales floor.
Moving back to Michigan to be closer to family, I worked for one year for Zales Corporation, running their insurance replacement service for the state. I acted as a liaison between 28 Zales stores and Insurance companies.
Enjoying the technical aspect of the business, I left Zales and took the opportunity to go into business for myself appraising jewelry. This afforded me the flexibility to start a family. While raising two children, I was able to work on my own schedule.
Now that I am an empty nester, I am enjoying working for Heritage Appraisers. I bring more then 30 years experience appraising jewelry to my customers. I predominately service the Mishawaka Indiana, Toledo Ohio, and Michigan areas.
Having experience with the buying and selling of gemstones, dealing with insurance companies, coupled with my love of jewelry has been an asset to me in the business. I am very fortunate to love what I do.
