Loose Diamond and Grading Reports
Diamond reports performed by Heritage Appraisers, Inc are conducted by Graduate Gemologists from the Gemological Institute of America.
For an additional fee, the appraiser can include a cut analysis and/or a plotting diagram for a more comprehensive report.
Some clients purchase their diamond from non-traditional sources, i.e. online auction or jewelry sellers, while they are on international vacation or on cruises, or from friends who know “someone in the business”.
Clients who receive mounted diamonds from family members are encouraged to have the diamond un-mounted for a comprehensive report prior to re-setting the diamond for personal needs.
When the diamond is loose, our appraisers can inspect the diamond on the top and bottom, and check for any enhancements such as laser drilling (to remove inclusions) or fracture filling (to fill large breaks) which may not have been disclosed at the time of the original sale. Because the diamond is loose, we can provide the client with more accurate information as it relates to carat weight, color, clarity and cut.
How To Get The best diamond report
- Bring all documents relating to the diamond being evaluated
- Old appraisal reports and certifications for the diamond to be appraised
- Certifications for the diamond to be appraised
Diamond Report Fees and Cost
Fees to perform a diamond report depend on what information the client wants. Plotting diagrams or cutting analysis (links??) can be acquired for additional fees.
- If the client has the diamond mounted, they should have the appraisal updated immediately to reflect the mounting. If the diamond is not mounted the diamond should be updated every three to five years for a nominal fee.
